Welcome To Our Summer 2010 Issue

With this year’s summer heat getting us all hot and bothered already, the team here at Seventy-Thirty stopped ourselves from popping in to Harrods next door and put together this issue of our newsletter to celebrate the summer.  So, if you’re on a sojourn to Kensington for a spot of summer shopping, whether you are an existing or potential client, pop in to our offices and say hello.

Our Northern Lights

Seventy Thirty is continuing to flourish in the North of England with new members from this region rising by 20% over the past year. Subsequently, we have appointed two consultants, Jill and Gill (just to confuse you) to support our new members in the North. Given that the essence of Seventy Thirty’s unique matchmaking system is based on the assessment of core values, it was imperative for us to add experts to our team who were not just born and raised in the North, but are permanently based there and appreciate the culture, warmth and friendliness of our members.

Jill King Jill King is a Psychologist and Life Coach with over 10 years experience. Based in Leeds, she will meet prospective members living in Yorkshire and throughout the North of England as well as ensuring that every step of their Seventy Thirty journey is a positive one.

Jill King Gill Hughes has an impressive 20-year track record of client management and business development. Her focus is on members living throughout Cheshire. Gill is incredibly well networked and brings inspiration to every conversation.

If you are based anywhere in the north of England or Scotland and would like to arrange a meeting with either Jill or Gill to discuss membership, please contact Rachel MacLynn, Head of Membership on rachel@seventy-thirty.com or 020 7753 7631, who will put you in touch with the relevant person.

Transferable Dating Know-How

By Trudy Hill

To a certain extent one has to promote oneself in the world of dating in the same way one has to discover and market one’s assets to employers. Much of what you do in other areas of life, can be applied in the dating world to help you on your way to finding your dream partner. Here are some top tips to make sure you promote yourself to your best advantage in the world of dating:

Understand and utilise your transferable know how:  Although the differences between work-life and relationships are very apparent, those of us new or returning to the world of dating can still learn a lot from some of the parallels. Men and woman who have had very successful careers are equipped already with many of the tools to thrive in the dating world.  When you think about your career and how proactive you have been, you will notice that you have probably at one time or another taken a look at your own skill sets and motivations to identify the best opportunity for you; made great effort to dress the part for a role, promotion or interview; taken advice on interview techniques; asked for feedback about yourself from previous employers or after an interview. For many, this is just a few from a long list. Although you most certainly don’t want to go as far as treating love as if it were a business, there is a lot to transfer when it comes to learning about yourself.

Know what you are looking for: Dating takes time and energy, so we should know beforehand what we are really looking for in a person. In the same way one would assess their skill set before applying for a job, one needs to take some time to be realistic about who they are, what they bring to a relationship and what their values and wants are.

First impressions, appearance and dating etiquette: Only 3% of communication is based on language; the other 97% is based on appearance, body language, tone of voice and rapport. If you are not confident in your dress, manner and dating etiquette, speak to an expert, previous men or woman you have dated or even an honest but good friend for feedback on your dress, appearance and approach. Once you know where the weaknesses are, you put in the effort needed to strengthen them.  Most people will have asked for interview feedback in the world of work and learnt from it, so this idea is not completely alien.

Be confident: Confidence is extremely attractive to both men and women. We must approach dating from a place of confidence and security to enhance our attractiveness.  You most likely know what your strengths are in the office but can be completely unaware of those relevant to your relationships. So ask friends, family and most importantly yourself what it is that makes you special and be sure to take the positive feedback on board.

Develop yourself: We find ourselves most attracted to those who lead well-rounded and fulfilling lives rather than those who have put life on hold until they find a partner. Perhaps it’s time to start doing some of those things you have been putting off for later; travel, learn new skills and socialise.

Be proactive: Do not shy away from taking the initiative to ensure you find yourself in a position to meet the right calibre of single person. Put yourself out there and find ways to increase your opportunities to meet the right sort of single people.  After all, one does not usually land their dream job without doing something to find it.

Roujin Sharif-Saghez Charity Is The New City Chic

By Rachel MacLynn

Working for a charity as a career change; becoming a trustee; volunteering to directly help those in need; or embarking on some physical adventure to raise funds have all become associated with the words ‘sexy’, ‘desirable’ and ‘admirable’. Charity shops are almost unrecognisable, as the recession kick-started a surge in trendy and affluent people veering away from Old Bond Street and opting for some quirky purchases.  These new ‘boutique-style’ shops are proving just as desirable as a Saturday afternoon trip down Portobello Road. Mary Portas (aka ‘Mary Queen of Shops’ on BBC 2) is in the process of revamping Save the Children shops and bringing in clothes designed by local fashion students.  Even world famous fashion designers are tripping over themselves to lend their hand to something that will raise mega-bucks. Mini have this year enlisted Diane von Furstenburg, Francisco Costa (Calvin Klein) and Kenneth Cole to pimp out the latest models (cars, not catwalk), which will be sold at astronomical prices at ‘Life Ball’, an annual charity event held in Vienna that raises funds for people afflicted by HIV or AIDs.

Has charity involvement become the new way for those of us caught up in the rat race to send a billowing expression to our peers that says “hey, I might have a high-flying career but I am still a decent person and I am not just motivated by money”? Or is it a way to satisfy our own internal desire to do good for others? Whether the intentions are to compile a desirable social profile or purely altruistic, the impact is fantastic, so get involved!

Seventy Thirty continue to support various charities as you will see listed on our website. The team manage to tear themselves away from helping members find love by getting stuck into some great fundraising projects.  Here’s the latest…

The Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge
On 24th July, Rachel MacLynn and Jill King are embarking on a fundraising challenge for ARC (Antenatal Results And Choices), a charity which provides support to parents going through prenatal testing who may unfortunately be told that their unborn baby has a serious abnormality. They will walk 25 miles over 3 of Yorkshire’s highest peaks - Pen-y-ghent (691m), Whernside (728m), and Ingleborough (723m).  Please join us in wishing them luck.

Style & Fashion - Summer 2010

by Patrick Swan

“Now you see it, now you don’t” is usually how we view Summer. However, this Summer is proving different... so far! The burst of fine weather is still with us and that makes it fun to shop and dress for it, as well as planning ahead at the same time.  Here are my hot recommendations for all Seventy-Thirty members.

For Women

If you are a woman and want to drop 10 pounds in a flash whilst adding a dash of femininity at the same time, pop on the highest wedges for day and platforms for evenings out. What they do for your figure and stature will attract glances and set the pulses racing. Peep toes can be a great investment for your autumn wardrobe as well as your summer one. Simply team them with tights and you will confirm the trend that started last winter as uber cool. Without doubt Mui Mui and Prada continue to make the most comfortable and stylish shoes around.

Looking for one-stop clothes that make a woman feel and look ageless? Go for Donna Karan and Michael Kors; both have many of my new and existing clients confirmed and devoted. Each label has its own unique take, with palettes that mix white, stone and graphites, to which you should add bright summer tones with your key accessories.

If shopping for an evening out has you in a pinch, try One Night Stand. Owner, Joanna has a collection of beautiful attire, which - I warn you - may give you second thoughts even when splashing out for another special dress is simply not your priority! She is very gifted at helping you select the perfect garment, appropriate to your special occasion.

For Men

Canali’s flagship menswear shop has opened to a standing ovation on Bond Street and boomed over the last couple of months. Brian, who is the manager, has returned to his roots with this luxury label, as he feels that both the heritage and quality of this brand delivers so well against other ready-to-wear, with a modern twist and fabric mixes that make quick trips a breeze. You see, if the fabric mix is perfect, wrinkles are not part of the content but looking crisp and cool is...

Last Thoughts

With Autumn/Winter ‘10 clothes starting to come in, drop into the stores now to avoid any shopping disappointments and panics. Sail past the sales racks and find that key building piece or outfit which will make sense of that swimsuit body you worked so hard for, and maybe even tempt you to keep in shape for the months ahead...

Top tips

Maxi skirts, leatherwear, straight cut denims
